My textile practice has evolved through experimenting and combining traditional techniques and modern practices, using a variety of materials to work with both my hands and machines. These are often drawn from a number of skills - hand felting, weaving, knitting, textile sculpture, and surface effects including hand stitching. These processes often represent social and cultural concepts in a textile history framework, crossing cultural and contextual boundaries between traditional craft and contemporary art. With research and development, my findings can often define the choice of materials, processes and techniques to use. The significance of Textiles and Art being a universal language interests me.  

I have exhibited widely since 1992 in a variety of gallery and museum contexts, both nationally and internationally. I began working in stained glass in 1992, with my practice ranging from small glass hangings to unique Tiffany style lampshades, and to large stained glass panels for installation in windows. I have had a number of commissions in the UK and abroad. I also assisted Hana Osmancikova in a large stained glass church window commission in the Czech Republic. My experience of working on a commission with a school resulted in the outcome of two stained glass windows designed by the children for a new children’s centre in Harrow. Highlights of selected exhibitions include the Palace of Westminster, with a reception hosted by Betty Boothroyd. I also participated in a group exhibition in the Centre Culturel H Matisse, France. At the time we stayed in the house once occupied by Henri Matisse.                   

I have a formal training of a B.A. (Hons) in Art and Education, and a Post Graduate qualification in Art Therapy. I have much experience of teaching stained glass to adults and young people, and have extensive experience of residencies in both school and community contexts, working with all ages and abilities. More recently I have completed a B.A. (Hons) in Contemporary Textiles in Shetland, as a way of learning new skills to combine with other techniques. This practical and research based degree course has allowed me to develop my arts practice especially with a Shetland influence. I finished my third year of the degree with a distinction.
