Sue Wagstaff sculptor

Sue has been practising as an artist since graduating from the University of Hertfordshire and was recently appointed Head of Art at Ralph Sadleir middle school in Puckeridge, Hertfordshire.

Her portrait studies are influenced by statues in the British Museum from Ain Ghazal on the outskirts of Amman in Jordan (7200 BC). The statues simple but enigmatic features inspired her to utilise a similar repeated form for the portraits, and rather than describing an individual through physical traits, both personal and representational objects have been used to portray a specific personality. Sue describes one of her video installations as a way of saying goodbye to her Grandmother; it shows her cooking pots poetically enveloped in flames on the cooker and an armchair reupholstered in her Grandmothers dresses, contrasted next to the video projection.
