My paintings evolve from a fascination with travel and the centre of flowers. They are an exploration of memory, colour and the rigid permanence of bone to the fleeting transitory nature of flowers. Working on the edge of representation, I work to a large scale using high quality oil paint to immerse the viewer in colour and form. My influences are from European/American art. I also use music, particularly Latin, Cuban & Jazz to compliment my mood whilst painting. I am now working on a new series of paintings reflecting my travels and combining flowers associated with each country Having worked in the creative industry in London for many years I moved to Wales in 1991 where I began to paint wildlife, particularly birds of prey and big cats, exhibiting yearly at the British Falconry and Raptor Fair. Moving back to London 5 years later, I worked as a part time tutor in art for Waltham Forest, and together with a fellow artist and tutor, staged a very successful, East London Art Fair in Walthamstow. This led on to opening my own gallery with the aim of being a platform for promoting local artists and graduates. I now work from my studio in Parndon Mill, Harlow, and combine a role as Secretary for Parndon Mill Artists as well as being actively involved in Open Studios. I also teach part time for Hertford Regional College. |
