Ivan Daggett Sculptor

Ivan has been practicing as an artist since graduating from the University of Exeter and is a lecturer in Art and Design at Harlow College.

Although his work has for some years been concerned with carving in stone, he has recently returned to clay modeling and casting in plaster. The images he works with are ideas related to recent studies in mythology at Chichester University; the sculpture Orphic Orator is linked with the story of Demeter and Persephone. Ivan’s stone carving conveys less obvious figurative references: the middle section of Tree-Lily, which he describes as a form of transposition, is modeled on the torso of a particular Buddhist sculpture from Sri Lanka in the British Museum. Seeding Nation is about his time and experience in the Sierra Nevada Mountain’s in California.
