Jane describes herself as an artist-printmaker concerned with the celebration of manual work. "I have been inspired by many years of drawing in a wide variety of industrial locations including a gin distillery, sewage pumping stations and building sites and I spent an extensive period at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry". The exhibition includes some of her latest work, hitherto unseen. In these prints she has cross-fertilised glazier figures with images drawn at the National Gallery in London, to offer the workmen a classical air. The glass is gone, and the figures face the open sky, or touch it, or reach for it. |
